What Venus Lines (♀️) mean in astrolocality (aka astrocartography)

What Venus means in Astrology

Before we dive deep into the locational astrology side of things to demystify Venus lines on your natal map, it’s important to review the basics.

Venus symbolizes many things in the birth chart: art, aesthetics, values, attraction and your instinct and style to love, create and foster social cohesion and healing.

Venus is associated with harmony (of all kinds, from social to musical), luxury, the humanities, devotion, relationships (all forms of love, not just eros), and yearning.

Both sign placement and house are helpful in providing information.

While all of the planets in astrology have mythical archetypes, Venus and her Greek counterpart Aphrodite are still very actively associated with the planet. They are revered and feared goddesses of love, beauty, desire, fertility, victory, and war.

To understand how Venus lines work in your natal map or astrocartography map, begin with basic dignity and debility based on the zodiac sign of your natal Venus (♀️).

In locational astrology (aka astrolocality or astrocartography), we first look to the condition of your natal Venus (sign, house, strong aspects, etc.), because your Venus lines will also reflect that energy.

Venus lines: how are yours? Taurus/Libra Venus is in domicile (best), Scorpio/Aries Venus is in detriment, Pisces Venus is exalted, and Virgo Venus is in fall (hard).

TIPS: Venus is in its joy in the 5th House, aka the House of Good Fortune.

A note on Venus in Virgo—while it is technically in fall, it’s important to keep in mind that this isn’t saying that you’re doomed or will never find partnership. That said, Venus lines are unlikely to be your best option. Consider looking to your Mercury lines (ruler of your Venus) if they’re in better shape!

Having tight aspects of any kind with Venus in your natal chart will reflect on your Venus lines—trines () and sextiles () generally supportively bringing in the energy of the other planet, and squares () and oppositions (☍) inviting growth and development through challenge with planets naturally at odds in one way or another.

(Conjunctions depend on the planet.)

What Venus lines mean on astro-maps, including each angle (ASC, DSC, MC, IC)

Venus lines are generally places of heightened romance, creativity, and harmony and reflect the nature of your natal Venus.

The land* in these places typically wants to support you in Venusian efforts like creative work (either on the producing or receiving end), orchestrating fun social connections (often a nice option for parties), and fostering harmonious relationships and love of all kinds!

  • Venus Ascendant lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♀️AC or ♀️ASC on the map. ♀️Venus AC lines on astrolocality aka astrocartography maps are generally recommended for being seen for your beauty, aesthetics, and creativity + embodying your Venus’ energy. The land here supports positive self-esteem (“feeling yourself”), feeling magnetic, and stepping into the role of artist or creative in a general or specific sense. (Watch for over-indulgence, though!)

  • ️Venus Descendant lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♀️DC or ♀️DSC on the map. The land in these places supports you in connecting with those you find attractive and/or valuable, possibly even an ideal partner (romantic, platonic, business), finding your Venus’ signature reflected back towards you, and overall enjoying relational ease and connection!

  • ️Venus Midheaven or ️Venus Medium Coeli lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♀️MC on the map. Here, Venus’ ease and abundance kiss your career and public life, often with welcome opportunities, easier consensus, and valuable rewards for your efforts (your mileage may vary based on timing and the rest of your chart). The land on this line is very supportive of harmonious and creative work, especially anything visual/aesthetic and/or music-related.

  • ️Venus Nadir or ️Venus Imum Coeli lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♀️IC on the map. This is a classic pick for feeling “at home” and for good reason—the IC is your most private, personal angle, aka your physical home (as well as your past/roots). Who wouldn’t want Venus as a hostess or permanent houseguest? The land here wants to support you in fostering a home that is harmonious, beautiful, and full of love (when your natal Venus is happy).

*I reference “the land” on your Venus lines because I feel strongly about centering the land and our relationship with it (as well as those we share it with) in my practice of locational astrology or astrocartography. When I say “land” I am also referring to the water and air on your lines.

Working with the planet Venus and Venusian energy:

One way you can work with the planets is by using planetary days and hours intentionally. Venus’ planetary day is Friday.

Combine this with astrolocality by offering or booking aesthetic & creative work, doing luxurious self-care, enjoying music, getting flowers, decorating (yourself + your space), earning + spending $, setting up dates (all kinds!) on Venus day/hour on your relocated local space Venus line, or facing your Venus direction.

Tips & reminders about Venus lines in your natal map (aka astrocartography):

  • Your Venus lines will reflect the nature of your natal Venus.

  • Your Venus lines will reflect the nature of your Venus + Venus lines are typically not the best line for a Virgo Venus (try the DSC ruler or Mercury lines instead!) or those with harsh aspects (especially from a tougher planet) to their natal Venus.

  • ALWAYS look to the relocated chart for more information (and don’t forget to consider Venus parans)!

  • Work your angles—knowing what you want (career, relationships, etc) will help you decide which angle you’d like a planet on (or not)!
