What Jupiter Lines (♃) mean in astrolocality (aka astrocartography)
What Jupiter means in Astrology
Before we dive deep into the locational astrology side of things to demystify Jupiter lines on your natal map, it’s important to review the basics.
Jupiter is referred to in Hellenistic astrology as “the greater benefic” and while (like any planet imo) it can also produce results we don’t prefer, it symbolizes many lovely things in the birth chart: growth, luck, abundance, expansion, optimism, our beliefs or values, knowledge gained through experience (like travel and cultural exchange), and your instinct and style to philosophize (and potentially fraternize—there’s a reason we refer to people as ‘jovial’ when they’re great craic).
Jupiter is associated with adventure, freedom, grandparents, children, the law and legal systems, your personal cosmology, and optimistic risk-taking.
Both sign placement and house are helpful in providing information.
To understand how Jupiter lines work in your natal map or astrocartography map, begin with basic dignity and debility based on the zodiac sign of your natal Jupiter (♃).
In locational astrology (aka astrolocality or astrocartography), we first look to the condition of your natal Jupiter (sign, house, strong aspects, etc.), because your Jupiter lines will also reflect that energy.
TIPS: Jupiter is in its joy in the 11th House, aka the House of Good Spirit.
A note on Jupiter in Capricorn—while it is technically in fall, it’s important to keep in mind that this isn’t saying that you’re doomed or will never find luck or abundance. In fact, it’s possible that once you’ve satisfy ruling Saturn’s requirements, the abundance you build may even be more long-lasting than the Wheel of Fortune typically provides. That said, Jupiter lines are unlikely to be your best option overall (and the same with Saturn lines, the ruler of your Capricorn Jupiter, due to it being a malefic, but it depends on the rest of your chart in either case).
Having tight aspects of any kind with Jupiter in your natal chart will reflect on your Jupiter lines—trines (△) and sextiles (⚹) generally supportively bringing in the energy of the other planet, and squares (☐) and oppositions (☍) inviting growth and development through challenge with planets naturally at odds in one way or another.
(Conjunctions depend on the planet.)
What Jupiter lines mean on astro-maps, including each angle (ASC, DSC, MC, IC)
Jupiter lines are generally places of heightened luck, optimism, adventure, expansion (of all kinds), ease, and exploration and will reflect the nature of your natal Jupiter.
Traveling or moving here can feel like changing your fortune for the better (ymmv based on your natal chart, though)!
The land* in these places typically wants to support you in Jupiterian efforts like learning, teaching, cultural exchange, spiritual understanding, humanitarian endeavors, and growth of all kinds!
Jupiter Ascendant lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♃ AC or ♃ ASC on the map. ♃ Jupiter AC lines on astrolocality aka astrocartography maps are generally recommended for being seen for your values and approach to life, especially generosity, positivity, and good humor + embodying your Jupiter’s energy. The land here supports optimism, feeling jovial and connective, and stepping into the role of student, teacher, or spiritualist in a literal or metaphorical sense. (Watch for over-doing everything, though!)
️Jupiter Descendant lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♃ DC or ♃ DSC on the map. The land in these places supports you in connecting with those you find expansive and/or wise, those who share your cultural or spiritual values, and possibly even an ideal partner (romantic, platonic, business [especially if your business is Jupiterian in nature]), finding your Jupiter’s signature reflected back towards you, and overall enjoying relational joy and connection!
️Jupiter Midheaven or Jupiter Medium Coeli lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♃ MC on the map. Here, Jupiter’s growth, luck, and abundance are front and center in your career and public life, often with welcome opportunities, joyful connections, and valuable rewards for your efforts (your mileage may vary based on timing and the rest of your chart). The land on this line is very supportive of pro-social, cross-cultural, creative, and educational work, especially anything related to travel, humanitarian work, spirituality, travel, and publishing.
️Jupiter Nadir or Jupiter Imum Coeli lines are shown by the symbol and abbreviation ♃ IC on the map. This is another top pick for relocation and for good reason—the IC is your most private, personal angle, aka your physical home (as well as your past/roots). Who wouldn’t want Jupiter as a host or permanent houseguest? The land here wants to support you in fostering a home that is connective, expansive, and full of supportive energy (when your natal Jupiter is happy). You might find yourself making friends with the neighbors, lavishly decorating, filling your bookshelves with treasured knowledge, and adorning your walls with treasures from your travels (global and mental)!
*I reference “the land” on your Jupiter lines because I feel strongly about centering the land and our relationship with it (as well as those we share it with) in my practice of locational astrology or astrocartography. When I say “land” I am also referring to the water and air on your lines.
Working with the planet Jupiter and Jupiterian energy:
One way you can work with the planets is by using planetary days and hours intentionally. Jupiter’s planetary day is Thursday.
Combine this with astrolocality by visiting a museum, applying to jobs, pitching a publisher, enjoying music, doing anything that makes you feel spiritual, taking a calculated risk (please use your best judgement and be safe out there!), going on outdoor adventures, doing anything that makes you feel in awe, grateful, and expansive or abundant, going to or hosting parties and meetups, earning + spending $, making a money bowl, asking someone out, and teaching or learning on Jupiter day/hour on your relocated local space Jupiter line, or facing your Jupiter direction.
Tips & reminders about Jupiter lines in your natal map (aka astrocartography):
Your Jupiter lines will reflect the nature of your natal Jupiter.
Your Jupiter lines will reflect the nature of your Jupiter + Jupiter lines are typically not the best line for a Capricorn Jupiter or those with harsh aspects (especially from a tougher planet) to their natal Jupiter.
ALWAYS look to the relocated chart for more information (and don’t forget to consider Jupiter parans)!
Work your angles—knowing what you want (career, relationships, etc) will help you decide which angle you’d like a planet on (or not)!
